RE: Best programmer (chip) for a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7L Hemi

The chips on gassers are a waste of money. Tiy will do better with manifolds, exhaust and intake modes. Most chips on gasser will require the use of preminum fuel. Ken

RE: TT under 6,000 wet weight

Campergirl, first thing you need to understand is that the published tow rating on the trucks is a MAXIMUM and based on a base model truck, no options, no cargo, no hitch and only a 150# driver. So for every # you add to the base rating with cargos, passengers, hitch (150 to 200#) you reduce the tow rating accordingly. For estimating purposes, you can use 80% of the tow rating or 0.8 x 6000# equals 4800# for a wet and loaded trailer weight. You should in no way try to pull a 6000# loaded trailer with a 6000# MAXIMUM rated vehicle. You will be over the trucks rating, guaranteed. From personal experience, the medium and small sized SUV's make preyty poor tow vehicles due to the short wheel base and high center of gravity. You need to really consider the comfort of towing, because with small tow vehicle, it is tiring at the best. You need to consider pop ups and small Hybreds unless you want to upgrade to a larger vehicle. Think of the safety of your family first. Ken

RE: 500 miles?!

The 500 miles is to let the rear gear set to set or wear-in to a normal pattern. So be sure an get 500 miles on it fiirst. Ken

RE: Tow vehicle surges back and forth

Are you sure of your weights? 350# tongue weight and a 3800# trialer is only 9.2% on the tongue. You need to get it up closer to 12% and see how it rides. Also, some road conditions will make a normally smooth rig buck like a wild horse. Ken

RE: 3 to 4 mpg more by adding a quart of oil to deisel??

Tink about it..if you have a 35 gallon tank which is 140 quarts, you mix would be 1 in 140 or 0.71% by volume. Just another old urban myth. ken

RE: SEVERE sway with my 2008 cougar304BHS?????

RE: AC PROBLEM

What size breaker and what was your voltage in the trailer with the A/C operting. You need to get one of the plug in volt meaters. The A/C units should be able to run on 108 volts as the power company is to provide 120 volts, +/- 10%. Some of the older units could still run at 105 volts, but the newer ones sure don't like below 108 volts. Ken

RE: Reese Dual Cam setup

hailwood, I have never had mine come off the cams. You should go back and check your set up and make sure the cam saddle are not too far to the rear. Ken

RE: Hot water heater electric on or off?

Electric is very slow recovery or reheating. If you have the time, electric will probably be marginally less money. Ken

RE: Towing Tragedy

I hope all will pull through...but something does not add up ..typically poor news reporting. A Durango is a mid size SUV, not a pick up truck and a 35' 5th wheel. Was he using one of the 5er tow dollies or wa it really a pick up and a 5er or was it really a travel trailer? Ken

RE: electrical trouble ??

Usually it is worn and loose recepticle or worn plug. Also if the connections in either part of the plug are loose, it will generate excess heat and melt the plastic. You should get a new male plug and repalce the end before it hurts someone. When you plug into a campsite, inspect the plug first and DO NOT use it if it is not in good shape, show signs of heat of smoked. Ken
